Norwegian Jazz in Vietnam

Culture - A number of well-known Norwegian jazz musicians have visited Vietnam during the last few years. These musicians have performed both in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, they have given several master classes/workshops at Hanoi Conservatory of Music, as well as participated in the EU Jazz Festival.

Urban Connection and Funky Butt played together with Vietnam's famous jazz artist Quyen Van Minh during the 30th Anniversary of diplomatic relations in 2001. Besides from the concerts during the anniversary, Urban Connection also held workshops at Hanoi Conservatory of Music. Urban Connection,

now one of the most sought after jazz bands in Europe, also visited Vietnam in 2003, participating in the 3rd European Jazz Festival in Hanoi and HCM City. The band became highly inspired of Vietnamese folk songs during their first visit to Vietnam, and one of their compositions performed during the European Jazz Festival in 2003 was influenced by Vietnamese folk tones and included traditional Vietnamese instruments.

Come Shine held concerts in HCMC and in Hanoi in 2002, and gave workshops at Hanoi Conservatory of Music.

Sigurd Ulveseth Quartet, another well-known Norwegian jazz band, participated in the European Jazz Festival in Hanoi and HCM City in 2003.
